Staying Safe During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Hello to all of my friends in the UK from Moishe’s Mom on Twitter. I am writing to you on this first Sunday in April 2020 to share with you some of the latest information coming out of the USA remember wherever you are It’s all about KEEPING SAFE !
along with a few updates concerning this global COVID-19 pandemic. It is during these trying times that we must come together to support one another and help one another stay safe. During these trying times, it is quite easy to become nervous, stressed and depressed.
I am a child of the 1960s and lived through the Cold War Era drills of hiding under school desks. I ask myself–how would hiding under school room desks protect us from nuclear bombs? This war that has been released to the world is an invisible one and it is challenging the very fabric of our society.
The World has not been challenged in this manner since the 2001 911 Terrorist attacks and it we are barraged every minute with new infection rates and ever increasing death tolls.
Staying Safe During the COVID-19 Pandemic Continued!
Since 1986, I have been working in the Environmental, Heath & Safety field. I started out as an Environmental Consultant working for industry, commercial clientele, municipal governments and school districts.
I have worked for State of Maine Department of Environmental Protection, the third largest City in Maine as an Environmental Coordinator and I currently work for a medium-sized private University.
I have worked in decontamination zones, SUPERFUND sites, contamination transport investigations, and have instructed workers on how to effectively work and decontaminate oneself as to not bring contaminants home.
There is so much information circulating on the internet and social media that it begs the question–what should you believe? Is the information trustworthy? Is is causing undue stress and panic?
Covid 19 it’s not fake news it’s not a joke
I am not here to down play the severity of this outbreak–it is no joke and is not “fake news.” Since its initial tracking by the World Health Organization (WHO) in November 2019, it has spread across the globe swiftly.
To date, there are now 8 strains of COVID-19 as it is an ever changing and emerging pathogen. It spares no one and can debilitate seemingly healthy persons but certainly has a penchant for immunocompromised individuals.
Heath Workers are exposed at alarming rates because they are exposed to excessive levels and are struggling due to the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE). But we can all protect ourselves by staying at home and social distancing.
On Friday, April 3, 2020, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued recommendations for those who must go out in public and whom don’t have access to PPE or face masks, to use any type of cloth covering around the nose and mouth. I talked about this three weeks ago to friends and colleagues.
My advice on Covid 19 please take heed !
At the time, bandanas were mentioned as a viable option. Because many persons with coronavirus don’t have any symptoms and are considered “asymptomatic” or those persons who are “pre-symptomatic” (maybe sneezing or coughing or thinking it’s seasonal allergies, the transmission of COVID-19 is spread. Please see the following link:
Plz see link here for more information. I would like to point out that the CDC is still advising maintaining a 6 foot or 1.8288 meter distance when in public, but recent articles in The Scientist report studies where they have measured droplet spray 10 feet or 3.04800 meters from the infected individual.
So I advise a 10 foot plus social distancing while in public to remain at safe distances. For those interested in receiving electronic correspondence from The Scientist contact newsletters@the-scientist.com
Other protective measures you can undertake to ascertain that you are not bringing the virus home with you, especially if you have to go out in public is to immediately remove your clothing and place in the laundry.

Shower and wash your hair. It has been discovered that COVID-19 can live on clothing and hair for 24 hours. When you gather your delivered mail and parcel deliveries, open the packages outdoors.
Wear disposable gloves and wipe down all items before bringing them into your home. Also remember to wipe down all groceries before placing them in your storage areas, cupboards and refrigerator. Even when home, wash your hands with a foaming soap for 21 seconds frequently.
Wipe down touch points often. Also, keep hydrated and your throat moistened by taking sips of water, hot liquids or soups often. And if you don’t have to go out, please don’t.
COVID-19 is a serious heath concern that will be with the world for the next 24 months. It will take at least 12 months to arrive at a fast-tracked vaccine. Stay healthy my dear friends across the pond and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. To see the damage COVID-19 does inside the lungs,
please google Mashable April 3, 2020 by Emmet Smith’s video presented by doctors at George Washington University Hospital. It is an eye opener. The link is: https://apple.news/AI9Isjl9mQICUm0sgtxuZA

Useful info from Wynne as usual. Although it’s hard to remain in our homes it’s a small price to pay for staying well and plain common sense dictates that the measures outlined by Wynne are totally sensible.
Wynne is great and we are collaborating on how to get a comments chain going and maybe urge Wynne to write the amazing content she has so far
