Olde English Bulldogges (OEBD)
In recent years in the USA and in the UK, breeders have been combining English Bulldogs; American Bulldogs; American Staffordshire (aka “Pitbull) Terriers; and, Mastiffs to give us the OEBD.
Olde English Bulldogges (OEBD)
Hello from Maine just across the pond we Yanks and Brits call the Atlantic Ocean. I’m thinking of starting a monthly blog about dog breeds. Since Porscha is the face and fun of Collectibulldogs and she is part of a greater pack of dog breeds known as the “bully breeds,” I would like to start off my first feature with a breed that’s gaining momentum in the USA–the Olde English Bulldogge.
May I present to you the handsome and debonair Archie.Archie is a neutered OEBD who hails from the Northeastern United States. He is 18 months old and is pampered and loved by a wonderful family who are dear friends.
When I first met these two wonderful ladies, they told me that they had an Olde English Bulldogge named Archie. I immediately envisioned Eiffion’s dear Wiggles, who has left us for the heavens, and was loved by so many. And I remarked “oh right, an English Bulldog, right?” I was corrected—“no…he’s and Olde English Bulldogge.”
Bulldogges information
Olde English Bulldogges came into existence during the Enlightenment Period which ended in 1789 and were originally bred and kept for bull baiting. During the Victorian era, England ended bull baiting the breed swiftly faded into extinction.
Today’s Olde English Bulldogges have most a large percentage of lineage as all Bully Breeds with a few twists. In recent years in the USA and in the UK, breeders have been combining English Bulldogs; American Bulldogs; American Staffordshire (aka “Pitbull) Terriers; and, Mastiffs to give us the OEBD.
Alas, I present the regal Archie who wears all of his genes well. This selective mixing of four different breeds has eliminated some of the medical issues such as stressed breathing that plagues the “brachiocephalic” or pushed-nosed breeds.
More information on this beautiful breed
Archie’s snout is a bit more elongated than an English Bulldog and almost has the wonderful Boxer snout-slope to it. Today’s OEBDs are better suited for warmer climates than their close relatives the English Bulldog.
OEBDs are wonderful family dogs and revel in helping their humans with yard work, weeding and playing with the hose during hot summer days–at last that’s what Archie does with his humans. This breed is laid back, friendly and easy to groom.
Always ready to play, the OEBD knows how to relax and chill out on a comfortable sofa. They are tolerant of other dogs and are good with children. I hope you enjoyed a brief introduction into the Olde English Bulldogge. If you’d like me to feature a favorite Bully breed, please state so in the comments below. Cheers for now, Wynne Guglielmo, Moishe’s Mom on Twitter.

I’m glad you’re doing this Wynne. It will be an interesting addition to the site. Good article about OEBD & Archie is a handsome boy.
Wonderful read Wynne! Very informative! Archie is gorgeous! I have mutts so I don’t know much about certain breeds. Thank you for this as I didn’t know OEBD existed. They are beautiful!
Interesting to get the mixtures explained. The English (and American) Bull Terrier also fits alongside the bully breeds mentioned and has probably been added to the mix at some point along the way. The bull terrier has a wonderful unique charm all his own. Thank you, Wynne.
This is my 2nd attempt to post a comment:
This is an interesting & informative thing to do Wynne.
